How to get to Limasawa Island?

Easiest Way to get to Limasawa Island

From Tacloban to Limasawa Island

1. If you are coming from the airport, ride a jeep to Downtown and ask them to drop you in front of Petron or by the Coca Cola factory.
2. From there, either walk or ride a pedicab towards the van terminal in front of Robinsons Marasbaras. Look for a van going to Sogod, Southern Leyte. The trip will take 3-4 hours.
3. Upon arrival at Sogod, look for a bus, jeep, or multi-cab heading to Burgos. Inform your driver that you are heading to the port. Note: PUVs usually head for Malitbog only at 2PM onwards so be early in your travel.
4. On the port of Burgos, ride a boat or lancha to Limasawa Island. The travel depends on the weather, but they have scheduled travel time everyday except Sundays.

From Ormoc to Limasawa Island

Through Bus
1. If you are coming from the port, walk your way to the bus terminal near the public market. Look for the Metro Bus and ride the trip to Sogod. The trip will be 4 hours.
2. Upon arrival at Sogod, look for a bus, jeep, or multi-cab heading to Burgos. Inform your driver that you are heading to the port. Note: PUVs usually head for Malitbog only at 2PM onwards so be early in your travel. This trip will take about an hour.
3. On the port of Burgos, ride a boat or lancha to Limasawa Island. The travel depends on the weather, but they have scheduled travel time everyday except Sundays.

Through Van
1. If you are coming from the port, walk your way to the bus terminal near the public market. Look for a van heading to Maasin City.
2. Upon arrival at Maasin, look for a bus, jeep, or multi-cab heading to Burgos. Inform your driver that you are heading to the port. The trip will take about an hour.
3. On the port of Burgos, ride a boat or lancha to Limasawa Island. The travel depends on the weather, but they have scheduled travel time everyday except Sundays.

Things to do at Limasawa Island

1. VISIT THE TOURIST ATTRACTIONS OF THE ISLAND
– You can sneak a peek to the First Maass Shrine, take a hike to Magellan’s Cross, and grab a look at the view of the island lagoon in the Limasawa Island Lighthouse.

2. VISIT DAKDAK BEACH
– This offers a cream sand beach with airconditioned and open-air huts, along with a functioning restaurant.

3. VISIT THE LIMASAWA ISLAND LAGOON
– Named as a must-visit, the 30-minute ride from the town proper is worth it once you see the lagoon.
– Entrance Fee: ₱ 25 – Adults, ₱ 20 – Senior Citizens, and ₱ 10 Kids.

4. SWIMMING
– It’s best to ask the locals where the safe areas are for swimming.

Interesting Facts

– The name Limasawa comes from a legend, where Rajah Kolambo (the chief ruler) had 5 wives by the time the Spanish came to the island. 5 Wives means ‘lima’y asawa’ in the local language, and through time that was merged bringing fruit to its current name Limasawa.

Tips when visiting Limasawa Island

1. Go to Padre Burgos or Burgos a day before you plan to visit Limasawa so that you can take the earliest boat trip.
2. After an overnight stay on the island, wake up early and treck the Limasawa Peak in Triana to see the sunrise.
3. Bring cash because there are no ATMs on the island and cash is only accepted.

1. There is electricity 24/7 throughout the island.
2. There are plenty of restaurants and carinderias around the island.
3. Public Transportation in Southern Leyte typically takes a long time as PUVs come every half an hour to an hour. Have a flexible schedule.
4. Ask locals where it is safe to swim. There are areas around the island where the seafloor suddenly drops, be safe.
5. Do not leave your things unattended.
