From Tacloban to Canigao
1. If you are coming from the airport, ride a jeep or multi-cab to Downtown and ask the driver to drop you off at the Abucay Terminal or the Van Terminal in front of Robinsons Marasbaras.
2. In either terminal, board a van traveling to Maasin. Inform your driver that you’d like to get dropped off at the municipal plaza of Matalom, Leyte.
3. In Matalom’s municipal plaza, head to the pier going to Canigao. You can inquire locals about this since it’s a walking distance.
4. Upon arrival at the pier, alight a boat heading to Canigao Island.
From Ormoc to Canigao
1. If you are coming from the Ormoc Pier, walk towards the city’s terminal just across. Find a van heading to Maasin City.
2. Board a van heading to Maasin, and inform your driver that you’d like to get dropped off at the municipal plaza of Matalom, Leyte.
3. Upon arriving at Matalom’s municipal plaza, head to the pier going to Canigao. You can inquire the locals about this since it’s a walking distance.
4. On your arrival at the pier, alight a boat heading to Canigao Island.

Interesting Facts
– Canigao has a Fish Sanctuary site where tourists can view sharks and tropical fish. It is not advised to disturb the sanctuary’s provided habitat, so visitors should just observe.
– The main island has a 200 meter long sandbar near it.
– The island market provides fresh shellfish and seafood for tourists to buy raw or cooked.

To bring when visiting Canigao
1. Bring coral-friendly sunblock to not disturb Canigao’s ecosystem.
2. Bring your own tent to save money.
3. Bring your own snorkel gears.
Things to keep in mind when visiting
1. There is no corkage for food and water so you can bring as much supplies as you need.
2. Remember that the north and west areas of the island are considered as sanctuary so be careful. Consult with the locals before diving into any water.
3. There is electricity on the island, albeit powered by a generator. So remember that it is turned off by midnight.
4. Do carry enough cash because there are no ATMs nor GCash payment systems on the island.
5. Avoid swimming in the sandbars because it has riptides that can drown people. Instead, ask the locals for safe spots for swimming.
6. Always wear a life jacket when snorkeling.
